Why Is My Phone Battery Draining So Fast?

The usage graph answers the first questions for free: is one app dominating, is drain concentrated in certain hours, and is energy going to the screen or to background activity? Guessing without this screen usually means disabling ten settings to fix one.

Brightness, refresh rate, and screen-on hours dominate most days.

Compare screen-on time between a good day and a bad day before blaming an app. High brightness outdoors, always-on display, and high refresh modes all raise the per-hour cost, and a day with double the screen time simply uses roughly double the screen energy.

Low bars force the radios to transmit at higher power.

A phone in a basement office, a moving train, or a fringe coverage area burns noticeably more energy while idle. If the usage graph shows steady drain during hours you never touched the phone, check where it spent those hours and test one such day with Wi-Fi calling or airplane mode in the dead zone.

A misbehaving app can hold the device awake after an update.

Measure it: note the percentage at bedtime and at waking. A few percent overnight is normal; double digits point to a wake lock, a sync loop, or a stuck upload. The usage list names the app, and restricting its background activity or reinstalling it is a cheaper test than a new battery.

An aged battery drains fast everywhere and charges fast too.
