Band is only one layer

Frequency affects propagation and available channels.

Lower-frequency 2.4 GHz often reaches through obstacles better but shares crowded spectrum. Five and 6 GHz can offer wider, cleaner channels at shorter practical range.

Device support sets the ceiling

A router cannot add a radio your client lacks.

Six-gigahertz operation requires compatible Wi-Fi 6E or later hardware and regional support. Verify the exact device and router specifications before changing settings.

Channel width trades reuse for peak rate

A wider channel is not free bandwidth.

Wide channels can raise link rate but consume more spectrum and may perform worse in dense environments. Automatic selection can be a better baseline than copying one universal channel recipe.

Test bands at the same location

A controlled comparison beats frequency folklore.

Use one device and test beside the router and in the problem room. Compare stability and effective throughput, then choose the band that serves the actual task.
