Name the residue before changing products

Food, grease, mineral haze, and detergent residue have different causes.

Photograph a representative item and note whether the failure affects both racks, one zone, glass only, or heavily soiled cookware. Avoid changing detergent, cycle, loading, and rinse aid all at once.

Restore loading and visible spray paths

Nested items and blocked spray arms prevent water from reaching surfaces.

Load according to the rack diagram, verify spray arms rotate freely, remove debris from visible jets as instructed, and clean the user-removable filter. Do not reach into a disposer or pump cavity.

Verify hot-water arrival and detergent conditions

Temperature, hardness, dose, freshness, and cycle selection interact.

Follow the appliance guidance for incoming water temperature, run the nearby tap when instructed, use fresh automatic-dishwasher detergent, and match the cycle to soil. More detergent is not always better.

Escalate cold operation, leaks, and repeat errors

Heating and internal electrical components are not user tests.

If water remains cold, a heater or pump code returns, the breaker trips, or water leaks from the cabinet, stop using the machine and arrange qualified service. Share the residue pattern and controlled-test result.
