01

Protect food and record temperature

Do not wait for a repair decision before managing perishables.

Keep doors closed, use a reliable appliance thermometer, and follow current food-safety guidance for time and temperature. Move food to safe cold storage when the refrigerator cannot maintain a safe condition.

02

Check settings, doors, vents, and installation clearance

Visible airflow problems can imitate a major failure.

Confirm the control was not changed, packages do not block interior vents, door seals close on clean surfaces, and the appliance has the manufacturer-required clearance. Avoid repeated door opening during the test.

03

Separate freezer, fresh-food, sound, frost, and heat clues

The pattern helps service without exposing components.

Record which compartment is warm, unusual frost, fan or compressor sounds, recent loading, room temperature, and displayed codes. Photograph the model and control state.

04

Do not access refrigerant or internal high voltage

Sealed-system and electrical diagnosis require qualified service.

Unusual heat, repeated breaker trips, damaged cords, no normal operating sound, or continued warming after visible checks warrants service. Never puncture tubing, add refrigerant, or bypass controls.

HS TOOL / 05

Describe the appliance symptom.

Choose only what you can observe. The result never authorizes sealed-system or mains-voltage work.

Refrigerator symptoms

Assumption: this triage uses visible symptoms only and stops before refrigerant, gas, mains wiring, sealed high voltage, or internal pump access.
